Trevor
He’s a special boy. But so is everyone else; unless, of course, you’re
a girl, in which case you’re a special girl. He’s thin and pale.
But those are common traits in Superbia where the food is awful and no one
ever sees the sun.
He’s scared out of his wits most of the time because he has a knack
for seeing things others miss and what he sees is seldom pleasant.
Trevor’s got one desire – getting home! Others have different
plans for him though. The bogeymen have something in mind. Fortunately for
our hero Zephyr has something else in store, and Zephyr is a mouse who has
a way of getting what he wants.
Maggie – aka Abigail
Maggie is Trevor’s best friend, well, his only friend, really. She’s
a spunky firebrand with red hair and freckles. Unknown to Trevor she’s
part of a conspiracy to save him!

Epictetus
Trevor learns that there is more than he could have guessed to the old
one-eyed slave who watches the children in his hall at night. He’s
the head of a secret society known as The Venerable Guild of the Sun Eaters.
The Guardians
These are the bureaucrats who “care” for the children of Superbia.
Most of them are human and are just plain silly (like Media, Trevor’s
teacher) or evil (like Glaucon, the First Guardian). There are some who seem
human until you get to know them – like The Inspector of Incorrigible
Children.
The Bogeymen (Sabnock the Snatcher pictured)
There are lots of these in Superbia. They’re behind things and especially
beneath them and they’ve got plans for people. You meet plenty of them
in the story – there’s Goreman and Sabnock and Saucy and Azrezel
– to name a few.
Zephyr
“More than meets the eye. Very fitting – that’s me – more
than meets the eye,”
Zephyr quips when Trevor first meets him. He looks like a mouse, and
he is, sort of. He’s definitely Trevor’s biggest help. Trevor
doesn’t like thinking about where he’d be without the mouse.
But Zephyr has his own plans for Trevor, plans he doesn’t get around
to telling him about for sometime.

Mother Root
She lives in the woods with her dogs and her goats. After some terrible things happen to Trevor and Maggie they find refuge with her in her house. She has a way of putting things in their place – like Leroy the Ogre, for instance.
